Meta is finally rolling out the latest update for WhatsApp after months of anticipation. The latest feature allows users to connect multiple devices without the smartphone connection.
It is now possible to access WhatsApp Web from your PC even without connecting your smartphone. To add to the fun, you can now connect up to four devices to the same WhatsApp account simultaneously.
In July this year, Meta promised to make the feature available. However, it made the feature available to a group of users called Beta testers who do not just use the app but also provide the company with user feedback. It seems all the necessary improvements are taken of and the update is ready to be shipped to everyone.
Getting started
You can enable the feature on your phone by tapping the 3 dots icon at the top right corner of the app. Select Linked devices, for the first time, you’ll be logged out of all other devices. Visit WhatsApp web on your devices, scan the QR code to reconnect them to your account and that is it.

The feature does not in any affect end-to-end encryption of all your messages. The company made a lot of changes in order to make this feature available. They had to change configurations on their systems to uniquely identify different devices connected to the same account.
Downsides
Some down side issues are that users who connect iphone and iOS devices to their account will not be able to delete conversations. The feature cannot also be used on tablets, so users looking forward to connecting their iPads and tablets will have to wait. Finally, the feature does not run on older versions of the app. Connected devices will not have access to realtime location and they will not be able to send or receive broadcast messages.
Finally, users will have to connect their smartphone devices to the internet before every 2 weeks in order to refresh a code that will be used for connecting other devices. All your devices will be logged out if you do not connecting to the internet on time.
